Jeff says today was a very busy day. He was up at 6am and didn't sleep all day! No crash session today, yay!
Peggy stayed with Jeff while Annette was at work. Jay was also in to visit. Peggy spent much of the day on the phone trying to figure out insurance stuff... claims, coverage, etc. We are so grateful for her skills in these areas, we would be lost without her help!
Jeff says his first session of therapy (PT) today was mostly exercising his muscles for strengthening. They also worked on different methods to do transfers to see which way is easiest for him.
His second session of therapy (OT) was to do research on different wheelchairs. He wants to be very thorough before making any decisions.
He said, "We found the coolest power wheels! It's not FDA approved yet in the US so you can only get it in Europe, Australia, and Canada. Maybe in a couple years we'll see it here."
The manual wheelchair he wants has what's called "power assist wheels" to help with maneuverability and speed control on different surfaces and slopes. But we run into the same issues with the insurance as mentioned before. They don't like to pay for manual wheelchairs.
Jeff is considering changing insurances in November because it will be open enrollment. If he were to do this he'd want his current insurance to cover the wheelchair since the deductible has already been met. This means he has less time to order his wheelchair and it looks even more likely that he'll have a power chair vs a manual.
He knows he will have to reach his deductible each year with the medical cares he needs, but he'd rather pay it off slowly through the year instead of start the year with a large chunk owed from the wheelchair.
No decisions have been made on which wheelchair to get or what to do about the insurance yet. Again, please pray with us that through the research and time they are putting into finding a resolution they will be guided toward the right choices. Big decisions have big consequences and we know we need the Lord's guidance to find the right path for our dad.
We want him to have the best possible life under the circumstances and know that whichever wheelchair he chooses will play a big part in that. The same can be said for the insurance company they choose to go with for next year.
After work Annette went to the hospital to spend the evening with Jeff and Peggy went home. Anthony, the first assistant in the High Priest group in Jeff's ward, dropped in for a visit. Jeff and Annette then popped some popcorn and watched a movie before bedtime.
