Jeff says he slept okay last night. After two days of pushing himself so far in the wheelchair his arms are shot and he took it easy today. We are grateful that Sundays are more restful for him.
He and Annette went to church for the first time at the hospital and they really enjoyed it. We are thankful they had that opportunity and could be spiritually uplifted today!
Lunch was provided by their bishop's wife, Michelle. She came with her kids and brought salmon, rice, and beans. Jeff used the word "awesome" several times as he described the food. He especially loved the salmon! They were so full that they had to wait until after OT to eat the strawberry and Nutella crepes she made for dessert, which were also amazing. From all of us, thank you!
In OT Jeff worked on a design for a knife that will allow him to cut his own food so Annette won't have to. He says a search on the Internet for one came up empty. He's going to have Ron work on some welding to get it how he wants. Pictures will be posted once the final product is completed!
Between 3-4 pm Jeff and Annette were able to sneak a nap. Bad news is that when he woke up Jeff's nerves were freaking out. This has happened several times after an afternoon nap and he says, "No more naps for me! This is not working."
His body feels like there is buzzing all over and he again described feeling as if he is inside a turtle shell. While it usually calms down after a couple hours he had no such luck today. He felt pretty awful for the entire evening.
The doctors keep telling him they don't know if it's a good sign or just a side effect of the injury. Jeff says if it's his body healing itself then he can deal with it, but if it's for no reason then he really just wants it to go away. If only there was some way for us to know.
Jeff and Annette started to watch a movie, but were interrupted by several phone calls and then Jeff's dinner arriving.
Blake brought Annette dinner tonight and Greg Christopherson came to visit. Jeff says he really enjoyed their conversation about the gospel of Jesus Christ.
They were then able to finish watching their movie before bedtime. Most of Jeff's hobbies before the accident were physical, so we are very grateful he still has one he can do while he is in the hospital. He is always open to movie recommendations, so when you visit or call let him know your favorites! Or you can post them in the comments below.
We are grateful for all of your support and that you take the time to read about our dad's progress on this blog. It feels like the accident was just yesterday at times, but then we see all the progress he's made and it's amazing that it hasn't even been two months yet!
At first it was as if we couldn't catch our breath after it had been knocked out of us. We wanted a mourning period to soak in everything that had happened.
But our mom, in her wisdom, sees things in a much different way. She says that she feels blessed time isn't standing still. It continues on in such a way that she has never felt stagnant. She doesn't have to wait for things to get better because every day is busy and a success in its own way.
Time continues swiftly with the strides being made every day by our dad, no matter how small. His hard work is paying off little by little and we are all blessed by it. Soon he'll be home and a new chapter in his life will begin.
We never knew how much we could learn and grow from this trial and we find ourselves full of gratitude for what our dad is teaching us every day.
