Day 67, Thursday October 29
Jeff says he felt good again today. In fact, he went on a field trip that turned out to be quite the success! For the first part of therapy Jeff said they went outside and "played" in the wheelchair. After that he was loaded into a van and taken to Smith's grocery store.
His assignment: buy everything needed to make a PB&J lunch tomorrow. He had to take each item off the shelf and put it in the basket, load everything onto the conveyor belt at checkout, and even pay for the items.
Annette was so involved in this process that she didn't get any pictures, but that wasn't the end of his assignment. He then had to take his groceries "home" and put them away by himself. The therapy gym has a kitchen where they practice every day skills and this is where he put his groceries away.
He is getting to be something of an expert with the grabber and we are grateful for such a device that makes these tasks possible for our dad! We are proud of him for this accomplishment, it's amazing how much work he puts into these excursions.
All around today was a good day. Jeff felt better and was able to get a lot done. Days like this lift the spirit. We are so thankful for the "up" days he's recently had.
Melinda Diefenderfer dropped by today and ended up joining Jeff and Annette on a walk outside. She says, "I know Annette is looking forward to taking Jeff home. We talked about all the adjustments being made physically and mentally. We talked about a home schedule once they get there and about routine. It will take time to establish all of that. They are such strong and wonderful people who are an inspiration to us all."
Joshua Lloyd stay with him this evening, time Jeff always enjoys. We are grateful to Josh for his continued care and service toward our dad!
Thank you all for your prayers and positive vibes, we know it makes a difference and our prayers are being answered!
